What does the NCP form do?

It updates the address and particulars that eNaTIS — the national traffic information system — holds for a person or an organisation. That record is what the licensing authority uses to post vehicle licence renewal notices and what traffic authorities use to post fines.

Why does my address on eNaTIS matter?

Because notices are posted to it. If your address is out of date, licence renewal reminders and traffic fines are sent somewhere you no longer live. The obligation does not pause: an unpaid fine can escalate to a summons or warrant while the notice sits in someone else’s postbox.

Does changing my address at Home Affairs update eNaTIS?

No. The registers are separate. A change of address recorded at Home Affairs, at your bank, or with the Post Office does not reach eNaTIS. The NCP is what updates the traffic register.

What identification do I need?

Acceptable identification is essential and the form says so at the top. If a proxy or a representative signs for an organisation, they must produce their own identification too, not just the organisation’s documents.

What is the difference between the postal and street address?

The street address is where you actually live or trade. The postal address is where post reaches you — often a PO Box. The form asks for both, and then asks you to mark which of the two notices must be served at.

Which address should I choose for notices?

Choose the one you actually collect post from reliably. If you use a PO Box, mark the postal address. There is no advantage to choosing the street address if nobody collects post there.

Can an organisation use this form?

Yes. An organisation gives its business registration number and puts its name in the surname block, and marks whether it is a one-man business, private company, close corporation, or something else. The person signing does so as the organisation’s proxy or representative and identifies themselves in that block.

What is the language option on the form?

You may nominate one official South African language to appear on your driving licence in addition to English. If you have no preference, mark None and the licence stays in English only.

Do I have to complete every contact number?

No. Complete the numbers that apply to you. What matters is that at least one of them actually reaches you, since the licensing authority may use it to query the application.

Where do I hand the form in?

At your appropriate registering authority — the licensing office for the area where you live. It is handled over the counter and captured on eNaTIS while you wait.

Is there a fee to change my address?

Registering authorities may charge a small administrative fee, and it differs between provinces and municipalities. Confirm the current amount with your licensing office before you go.

Do I need a separate form for each vehicle I own?

No. The NCP changes the particulars held for you as a person or organisation, which is what the vehicles on your name are linked to. You do not complete one per vehicle.

What if I have also sold a vehicle?

That is a different notification. Selling a vehicle is reported on form NCO within 21 days of the sale. The NCP only changes your own address and particulars.

What happens if I never update my address?

Nothing visible — which is the danger. Notices continue to be posted to the old address and are treated as served. People commonly discover the problem only when a licence has expired or a fine has escalated.
